I am wondering if anyone has any experience running a transparent
HAProxy on RHEL4 (in particular, U4) or equivalent CentOS version.
There is no patch from the cttproxy site for 2.6.9, the kernel in RHEL4U4. I attempted to make the patch work, and as we progressed through the modifications contained in the patch, it became clear that at least some of the modifications in it appear to have already been applied to the RedHat kernel.
The list of patches that have been applied to the kernel doesn't appear to include the cttproxy patch though, as far as I can see.
The RHEL5 kernel might be easier to patch, in as much as that there is a cttproxy patch for that version, but I'd prefer to stick with our standard OS release if possible.
Also, I see from this post [1] that there is a new version of cttproxy that is making progress to inclusion in the mainline kernel, would haproxy be compatible with that version? Might this patch be easier to apply?
So, has anyone done transparent proxying on RedHat Enterprise / CentOS?
Is this a good venue for this discussion? Or should I head over to the cttproxy mailing list and trouble them instead :)
