Hello!
We run ~350 Mbit/sec and ~12-15K connections on Xeon 3220 and 2G ram. Feels normal and has some space to grow. It is Intel server platform SR1530AH. One bad thing about this hardware is that both ethernet controllers share same IRQ, and there's no possibility to change it, so effectively this box has only one ethernet on motherboard + empty slot for another.
