10GE NICs are there !

Hi there,

today I received five 10Gigabit NICs that were donated by Myricom as their very kind contribution to the haproxy project. In fact, they offered to send 4 of them for the basic setup, plus one spare just in case I would get into trouble. And they also provided me with the cables and even the small PCI brackets to accomodate any server. I also got free access to their support. They seem to be very obliging with their customers and to have high technical skills. I hope we'll be able to exchange with them and provide them with interesting results.

That's such an awsome present for Xmas! Now I have to test the NICs on various motherboards and finally buy the ones which can sustain the data rate. Apparently, between marketting and reality, there's a huge gap in the PCI-Express world! What I need is a motherboard which supports more than 20 Gbps of full-duplex DMA. Myricom provides tools to measure the loopback performance of their NICs, so I will "just" have to plug them into a motherboard, boot from a CD and run some tests.

I expect to be able to publish a few results soon! I'm sure that Alex will be tempted by some advances on the TCP splicing code :-)

I've put some photos here for those interested :

A huge thanks to those kind guys at Myricom! It's pleasant when there are companies which support open-source projects like this!

Cheers,
